Stars 2008 - Round 9 - Shenington
It's been a long time coming, however round 9 and the final round of the Stars of Tomorrow Championship at Shenington saw all Ash's hard work finally pay off.
The second heat ninth off the grid. Ash was on fire as he managed to cleave his way through the pack to claim a second. The third and final heat away in sixth, finishing fifth in an exciting race with a number of the front runners lunging from behind. The heats were enough to give Ash seventh off the grid. A blistering 'A' final took place and Ash managed to claim four victims to his final charge of the championship bring him home in a well deserved third. A well deserved podium place. Considering that this is his first season in completion at this level he has done remarkably well. Brendan Ash's dad said " Ash is absolutely thrilled to have finished the championship in the top ten and all in the first eighteen months of taking up competitive karting. We learned some hard lessons during this unsettled first season and lost valuable points as a result. We won't be making the same mistakes next time round. To quote Ash 'bring on 2009', watch this space." We look forward to his junior debut with anticipation of great things to come.
The draw for heat one saw Ash off the grid at at twenty one of twenty three runners. A lot of work to be done, unfortunately in a tangle Ash spun off, and was only able to finish at eighteenth, not a great start to the day.
Ash went into rounds 8 and 9 in eleventh place in the championships, this weekends results pulled him up a further two places to ultimately finish the 2008 championship in ninth place.
