Top slot at Shenington eludes Ash
Tuesday, 21 April 2009 09:34

As was out at the weekend in Round 4 of the Shenington Championship. His driving and the setup of the kart was spot on throughout Saturday's practice, he proved to awsomely quick.

Sunday's heats was a repeat of Saturday's practice - quick. Ash took a 4th, 3rd and 1st and recorded the fastest lap time in all three heats.  It was enough for him to qualify on P1 in the final. Ash had a good start pulling some 5 or 6 kart lengths clear of the chasing pack. The decision to run on used rubber was to cost Ash the win, the tyres went off and Ash had difficulty getting the kart to handle in the corners. By lap 10 he was running in third place and by the time of the chequered flag went out Ash had managed to get past James Hassall coming across the line second to Lewis Seville.

Brendan Ash's dad said "We had scrubbed a new set of tyres for the Rowrah meet next weekend, but decided to race on the tyres he had been on in practice as he was going so quick on them. It's surprising how quick they can go off, which they did around lap 9. You could just see the performance dropping away. Ash pushed as hard as he could and did well to take second but it was our questionable decision that cost him. One thing's for sure we won't be making the same mistake next week.

Formula Kart Stars - Rounds 1 and 2 - Ash
Wednesday, 15 April 2009 12:45

The newlook and newly named Formula Kart Stars saw it's opening two rounds at Kimbolton (11-12/04/09) in this double headed meeting. (Also See Ash's report at FormulaKartStars.com)

Saturday saw a miserably wet day, with persistant light rain for most of the day. Round 1 was a bit of learning curve for all the drivers concerned. In main the qualifying heats were gone, replaced by a qualifying session more in keeping with that of F1 in so much as it was against the clock. Parc Ferme was another concept which all the teams had to come to terms with, fuel and tyres not being available until the karts were on the dummy grid.

Ash in the Fast 50 at 34
Wednesday, 18 March 2009 10:38

alt Ash Named at 34 in the Motorsport News Fast 50

From: Nuneaton Age : 14
You didn't know: He only took up competitive karting in March 2007.
In 2008 he: raced in MiniMax in Stars and Super One
In 2009 he : will move into Junior Rotax with P1 Racing
Reason he is on the list : Hand's previous results may not amount to a great deal compared to the other karters on this list, but his relative lack of experience makes it impressive. Whereas most of the front runners in MiniMax this season had as much as five or six years of karting experience, Hand was racing his first full season after his novice year in 2007

P1 Racing boss Richard Amos says "I see how much potential he has, especially given the short period of time for which he has been racing. The way he is performing is extremely impressive. At Genk he could have finished on the podium had he not been taken out [by a rival] on the Saturday, then on the Sunday he came from 23rd to finish 7th. At the moment all he's lacking is experience, which we can build on over the winter. I think we can win the title together."

Ash clean sweeps the competition at Kimbolton
Sunday, 08 March 2009 00:00

What a great result for Ash at the weeekend. Saturday's practice session saw him returning some blisteringly quick times, so much so that he was bettering some of the senior times

Ash went off in heat one from P3, and very quickly stamped his authority on the race. A smooth confident drive saw him take the chequered flag in first place and also taking fastest lap.

Podium finish sets Hand up for season
Thursday, 29 January 2009 00:00

Ash Hand had to overcome a series of obstacles in his latest karting outing at Kimbolton, but still ended up on the podium, leaving him in confident mood for the start of his national campaign at the same circuit in two months’ time.

The 14-year-old Nuneaton ace travelled to the Cambridgeshire track for a warm-up ahead of the opening meeting of the BRDC Stars of Tomorrow and with local specialists out in force and no practice time, Ash knew he would be up against it.

Ash is in the fast lane to kart glory
Tuesday, 06 January 2009 00:00

You've got to hand it to him - Nuneaton karting star Ash Hand certainly left his mark on the track last year as he chased his dream of following Lewis Hamilton all the way on to the Formula One grid.

In his debut national campaign, Ash bypassed the traditional cadet entry route to dive straight in at the deep end in the more powerful Mini Max class. Racing in BRDC Stars of Tomorrow - the same series that launched Hamilton on the fast track to where he is now - it was a challenge with which he coped admirably, as he wound up a superb ninth in the country out of more than 50 competitors.

Peerless Ash smokes 'em to send 09 warning
Thursday, 27 November 2008 00:00

The young Nuneaton ace is a regular front-runner in BRDC Stars of Tomorrow - the same series that first set none other than newly-crowned Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton on the fast track to super-stardom - and since ending his maiden national campaign a brilliant ninth in the country in Mini Max, has stepped up to the more powerful Junior Max class over the winter in preparation for an all-out assault on glory in 2009.

Six tenths of a second faster than any other driver in the 24-kart field in dry practice on the Friday - and eight tenths up on club champion Josh Parker, and a full second clear of ex team-mate Matt Parry - was an excellent start. And then came the rain...

Ash shows rivals a clean pair of heels
Tuesday, 11 November 2008 00:00

HE MAY not have been there for a year, but when Ash Hand returned to Kimbolton for his latest karting outing, he wasted little time in showing his rivals what he was made of.

The young Nuneaton ace - a regular front-runner in BRDC Stars of Tomorrow, the same series that set the newly-crowned Lewis Hamilton on the path to Formula 1 World Championship glory - only stepped up from the Mini Max class to Junior Max a matter of weeks ago, but the extra power is clearly not fazing him in the slightest, as he has been a challenger for victory right from the off.

Ash gives regulars a driving lesson as career takes off
Monday, 10 November 2008 00:00

The young Nuneaton ace - a regular front-runner in BRDC Stars of Tomorrow, the same series that set none other than the newly-crowned Lewis Hamilton on the path to Formula 1 World Championship glory - only stepped up from the Mini Max class to Junior Max a matter of weeks ago, but the extra power is clearly not fazing him in the slightest, as he has been a challenger for victory right from the off. Kimbolton would witness more of the same.

"We were just really going there to test in preparation for Stars' next year," he explained. "We haven't been to many tracks yet in Junior Max, so it was good experience. I hadn't been there to Kimbolton for a year either, but I was expecting to be quick because I had gone well there in Mini Max.
